The peppermint flavor is good in my morning tea concoction. I consider it supplemental health insurance. My family and I have been using olive leaf extract for several years now to bolster our natural immune defenses and have been very happy with the results. Historically, olive leaf has been used as a cure-all herbal tonic for an assortment of issues. The antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties of olive leaf still have much to offer in the way of health benefits even today. We take a minimum dose of olive leaf extract daily and we increase that dosage when we're injured, exposed to illness, or feel like we might be coming down with something. (If you're interested in more details on the health-giving benefits of olive leaf extract, please see the end of my review for more details.)I've used olive leaf in various forms -- capsule and liquid (both in dropper-form and liquid pourable). Because I've always been pleased with the rest of Barlean's product line, I'd previously tried their Olive Leaf Complex with natural peppermint flavoring. Unfortunately, it bothered my stomach and the strong masking flavor of peppermint was too intense for me (and I normally like most mint flavorings).Since I wasn't sure if it was the added flavoring that bothered my stomach or the actual olive leaf formula used by Barleans, I decided to give it another try with a small (8 oz) bottle of this unflavored version which was suggested to me by another reviewer. After that initial small bottle, I now order it in this larger 16 ounce bottle. For whatever reason, this non-peppermint version still occasionally bothers my stomach -- but only very slightly and only briefly (unlike the peppermint version). I find that, if I take it on an empty stomach, 20 minutes later my stomach gets a bit queasy. Easily solved. I simply make sure that I drink a bit of juice or eat a couple bites of something (doesn't take much to make a difference). I'm not sure why Barlean's olive leaf complex troubles my stomach more than some others do. Perhaps it's stronger? Also, it may not have that same effect on other people -- for instance, it doesn't bother my husband at all.As far as the taste? I much prefer it to the peppermint-masked flavor of Barlean's other version. It has a bit of a slightly-sweet, grassy taste that isn't bad in my opinion. I add a tablespoon of it to a bit of water or juice. Many liquid versions of olive leaf give me a bitter after-taste, but I don't notice that with this version of Barleans. The bottle has a flip-top lid with a squeezable dispenser. For those counting calories, a tablespoon of the liquid contains 35 calories.Ingredients: Olea europaea (olive leaf) extract, glycerin, and water. If you're not too sick of reading, here's some *extra* stuff I learned about olive leaf extract:Olive Leaf extract is currently being studied for its ability to control blood sugar, improve heart health, lower blood pressure, as well as potential as a cancer preventative. And one of its main benefits is as a super-antioxidant. Research has shown it to have an antioxidant capacity almost double that of green tea extract and 400% higher than vitamin C. There are many health promoting benefits linked to its antioxidant activity...for instance, its anti-inflammatory properties which can be of help with the pain and swelling of arthritis. These antioxidant compounds provide major health benefits, and help to reduce the risk of many chronic and degenerative diseases. While many other immune boosters work only at stimulating your body's own immune system to work at peak efficiency, the oleuropein in olive leaf works to kill or resist the multiplication of a broad range of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and other parasites in your system. So, not only is your immune system getting bolstered; the olive leaf itself is doing much of the work for you in ridding your body of the offending problem.Another significant benefit of olive leaf is that it helps to inactivate disease-causing pathogens without destroying the good bacteria in your intestinal tract. This is an advantage over antibiotics which normally kill bad as well as good bacteria. Since nearly 70% of your immunity resides inside your gastrointestinal system, it's important to keep a healthy amount of good bacteria present. Because of this, it's important to begin using olive leaf extract before an infection worsens to the point of an antibiotic becoming necessary.I bought mine back in 2015. I vaguely remember trying it, then I shelved it and pretty much forgot about it. Forward to a couple of weeks ago (now 2018) and I have a heck of a chest and head cold. One morning after sucking on cough drops all night long for several nights, I noticed my throat was very red, had a swollen uvula, small white dots, and a small fuzzy section. While I doubted a strep infection, I wondered if I was starting to get thrush.. I did not seek out a doctor, but I did seek out the contents of my cupboard wondering what I had that could further boost my immune function. I dusted off the nearly forgotten bottle of Olive Leaf extract, and took the recommended dosage of 1 tablespoon. I had forgotten how yucky this stuff tastes. Blegh. I'm not sure what makes it so foul to me- the olive leaf complex, or the heavy handed glycerin flavoring. I don't take any stars away from the taste, because this isn't a food item, however, I have to wonder why so much glycerin? I'm between a 4 and a 5 for stars, so I will go with 5 considering that the product is still potent a full 3 years later.I can't say for sure that this product helped heal me. There is a correlation between my taking this product and the quick improvement of my throat. I had decided to take 2 doses a day, and within 24 hours or so, the redness, swelling, and fuzz receded. After a few days I reduced my dosage to 1 Tablespoon. I use a little measuring cup like that from the top of a medicine bottle rather than a spoon. I take it straight up, then follow up with a swig of water to help flush the taste. I might try holding it in the mouth for a moment before swallowing, to see if that increases absorption. I plan to keep this regimen up and see how it does to help reduce my blood pressure. After a few weeks I will come back to update on that.I would recommend this as an immune booster. I'd be fine with taking it every day, but if I didn't want to do that, at least having it in the cupboard for use as needed would be beneficial. The peppermint flavor tastes better, but is much more difficult to find.I’m going to be honest, the flavor is…medicine-y. But this product is so, so effective that we do NOT care about flavor! My 6 year old and I both had sinus issues that we couldn’t shake, and a friend recommended this product. We both have recovered and feel so much better!! It took about 2-3 days, but it took 5-6 with antibiotics and there are NO side effects with olive leaf extract! My husband and I just took our first dose and I was concerned we would both hate the taste based on the reviews here. I expected it to be really awful, but IT'S REALLY NOT THAT BAD! No where near as bad as described in these reviews. It's actually milder than a cough syrup, it almost had the taste of burnt sugar or coffee with alcohol taste. Once again, really not that bad and no nausea or bad effects yet.If it does everything it did for some of the people who reviewed it, I'm taking this forever! I just hope it works.UPDATE:We re-ordered the product. I felt more energetic after taking, the taste really isn't an issue, I mean it's not great, but it's not bad enough to stop someone taking it. I had to stop taking it, because all of a sudden I started having insomnia. I would wake up every night about the same time and couldn't go back to sleep. My husband is still taking it and he loves it because he says it actually helps him dream. he normally doesn't dream or can't remember his dreams and this seems to help with that. I need to research this further, because I really want to keep taking this, but after going without a decent night's sleep for like a week, I'm afraid to take it again. I should mention that we only take this first thing in the morning and didn't take this close to bed time or anything. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? This product is the best on the marketThus stuff in double chocolate flavour is delightful and easily the tastiest protein I've ever had. Highly recommend it if your trying to gain some quality mass but the tub won't last you long ya best bet is get the bigger tub or buy 2 of these 2kg ones. If you make this stuff with skimmed milk it'll top out at 800ish kcals add this to a decent balanced diet and you will get bigger :DAmazing optimum nutrition is very highly quality does make a improvement to muscle gainRelatively new to weight training for size gains, but this combined with Creatine is increasing muscle gains. Mixes easily with water and the two flavours tried so far are perfectly pleasant. The scoop is too big but just use a spoon or scoop from another product.its not the tub in the picture its a totally different tub its the old complex gainer not the new pro gainer so i was pissed off there but it tastes good and has similar nutritional values so it will have to do.Mixes really well and thick for a shake and one of the best tasting ones I've come across so far. If you have one of those motorised shakers, then that will struggle to mix this. Easily digestible though. Can't comment on results as everyone's different and therefore would be untrue.
